For analysts

What is SQL Studio?

The SQL Lab is Polyteia Analytic’s portal to the database. It empowers users to harness the full power of SQL for data exploration and analysis within Polyteia Analytics, providing a comprehensive environment for querying, exploring, and visualising data from diverse sources.

To fully utilise the capabilities of the SQL Studio, some familiarity with SQL is necessary. Polyteia Analytic’s is using Trino as a query engine, therefore all queries should use Trino SQL dialect. Please refer to this page for more details for the Trino SQL dialect specifics https://trino.io/docs/current/language.html.

What can you expect from SQL Studio:

  1. Query Interface: SQL Studio provides a user-friendly interface where users can write SQL queries using SQL Trino syntax. This interface includes features such as syntax highlighting, auto-complete suggestions, and query history to facilitate query writing and improve productivity.
  2. Query Execution: Once you have written your SQL queries, you can execute them directly within SQL Studio. The tool executes the query against the connected database and returns the results in a tabular format, which you can then explore, analyse, or visualise further.
  3. Interactive Exploration: SQL Studio enables interactive exploration of query results through features like sorting, filtering, and pagination. You can easily navigate through large datasets and drill down into specific details to gain insights.
  4. Dataset and Query Creation: You can create new datasets by writing SQL queries directly within SQL Studio. These datasets can then be used as the basis for further analysis and visualisation or shared with other users (currently the sharing feature is under development). Additionally, you can create and save reusable queries for future use, streamlining the querying process and promoting reusability.
  5. Visualisation Integration: SQL Studio seamlessly integrates with Polyteia Analytics visualisation capabilities, allowing you to create dynamic charts, graphs, and dashboards directly from their SQL query results. This integration enables you to turn your raw data into compelling visualisations for better analysis and presentation.
